Career Technical Education (CTE) programs are becoming more important for High School students each year. These programs accomplish two things. Firstly, they give students direct, real-world experience in the field the course operates, effectively allowing the student to determine if that is the path they really want to take. Secondly, it gives students that may not necessarily be college bound a chance to receive training and information on programs and careers right after High School. CTE programs promote Trade Schools, Community Colleges, Apprenticeships, Technical Schools and Certifications, and Journeyman opportunities.
Our Focus
Specifically with Cisco and Information Technologies, there are major opportunities for young men and women to explore. Unfortunately, a rather large gender gap exists between those young men and women. At Buchanan High School, the passed three year's Cisco Academy comprised of only two young women. That is roughly 3% of the total Academy for that time period. The focus of the G-Media group is to spread awareness of the CTE programs, and specifically to resolve and close the gender gap in the pathway of Information Systems and Technology. |
